This video does things to me...

  • May. 18th, 2008 at 9:27 PM

I can't believe I forgot how much Placebo mean to me.

So I never update this thing... I really miss it. I was using blogspot but I like being able to keep up with other people's lives... Mainly Amanda, Sarah & Liz. Actually, only Amanda Sarah & Liz :P You guys are good little livejournalers!

I don't really know where to start.
I got married. It was a beautiful day, although quite hot and a few many things went wrong. But I'm now Nadia Wright and that's what I was going for :P
I shot the V Festival... It was amazing. I still can't really believe I was that close to Billy Corgan.

I borrowed a friend's Nikon D300 for the day, along with his $3000 telephoto lens, god it was heaven. I didn't really get to enjoy the bands much but Queens of the Stone Age and Duran Duran were my highlights - soley because they were so much fun to shoot.

I was let into the photo pit at the Hot Hot Heat & Modest Mouse gig (what a combination) which was so exciting, I love nice bouncers!!! A few friends were upstairs watching and I nearly got killed by a flying mic stand kicked by HHH, then apparently I was showered in Isaac Brock's spit when I was getting photos of him. hehehe. Gross. Such good times though. It had been so long since I'd been to a stand-out show.
Hmmm what else has happened..
A boy I went to school with committed suicide and I had a bit of a break down. That was pretty horrible and I don't know that I've really dealt with all the new feelings...
I turned 23 - Tim took me to the zoo for the day, so much fun.
I've started a project called bside boys, which is pretty cool. It's basically going to be a heap of photos of yummy boys who don't have that "traditional" beauty, ie fake tans, six packs, yuck yuck yuck. My first shoot is on Saturday, I'm pretty excited.
I did an interview about it, actually.

I'm going to Splendour in the Grass in August. I applied for a photo pass but was given a free weekend ticket instead (still good!). Line up so far:
DEVO, WOLFMOTHER, SIGUR ROS, THE LIVING END, THE PRESETS, TRICKY, VAMPIRE WEEKEND, BEN LEE, COLD WAR KIDS, THE FRATELLIS, THE WOMBATS, PNAU, LAURA MARLING, THE VINES, THE GRATES, OPERATOR PLEASE, BAND OF HORSES, VAN SHE, THE PANICS, GYROSCOPE, MSTRKRFT, LIGHTSPEED CHAMPION, THE BROWN BIRDS FROM WINDY HILL, SCRIBE, THE MUSIC, THE GIN CLUB
It'll be amazing. I'm going with a girl I met when I was at Falls in Tassie, a gal I went to school with, and my writer friend Beth, and their boyfriends/brothers. Tim isn't able to come which sucks, but I'll still have plenty of fun drinking my head off and seeing COLD WAR KIDS!
Last night I shot bluejuice & the paper scissors. I've been feeling like my photos suck and I've been fluking my way through, but I'm really pleased with last night's work!

Most of my proper photo pass jobs have been through FasterLouder. I need to learn how to take better crowd shots, as they want 1/4 - 1/3 of the shots to be of the crowd, argh. I really don't have the knack :(

Anyways this is getting long.

I might try to update this more frequently. The chemicals in my brain just don't want to balance. So this may help.

What pleasure! What glee! What love it is to see you posting here again :) I'm not much for any other medium of internet communications, so I seem to miss out on your happenings until months later when I mistakenly log into Myspace and see that you've accomplished 20,000 things since my last login :P

Most things I have caught myself up on with your Myspace, but I will repeat that I am very happy for your marriedness and your successes as a photographer :D

I am terribly sorry to hear of the boy you went to school with :(

SIGUR BLOODY ROS!!! Oh it will be magnificent and oooh you had better tell me all the details. The whole thing will be a good time. Can't wait to hear about all of it, really :)

You've got the knack. Look at it like this: the power is in you already. It's a matter of letting it come through. Remove the blocks and it will appear. (Interpret as you will.)

I LOVE YOU NADS! It makes me so happy to have an update from you.

helloooo! I miss this thing!!!
Yeah things are going incredibly fast, I don't get time for much else - it's good and bad! I still feel like you're responsible for me getting as far as I have with music photography, you really pushed me in the right direction :)
And now that I actually know shit about cameras, I want to know what you shoot with! I'm sure you've told me before but I would've gone "oh...uh cool!" and really had no idea what any of it meant hehehe. I am getting a Nikon D300 with my tax return, I can't wait. I hate using my camera now that I've used a D300!! hehee.
Tim LOVES Sigur Ros, he's going to the sideshow while I am interstate at Splendour. I don't really listen to them unless he's got them on, I will see them so he doesn't divorce me hahaha. I am most excited about Cold War Kids, fuck I love them so much! Do you? TELL ME YOU DO! I am praying I don't miss their sideshow.

What are you listening to lately? With all these gigs I'm doing I'm getting more exposed to new music and I often find myself thinking "Ooh Amanda would like this!" .. especially with Aussie bands :)

Thankyou for the advice. I thought I did okay with my crowd shots at the Falls Festival but one of the photographers I met there said he didn't like any of them. That kind of got to me.

It makes me happy to have updated!!! I will definitely keep it up.

Aww <3 Well all I can take credit for was what I said, you did all the rest. You bothered to keep taking photographs, you took the photog course, you're putting yourself out there, you are the one that didn't give up!
BTW would you recommend that course? I'm right on the edge of signing up but just hesitate... I need something to kick my arse and get me doing stuff.
A d300!! That's awesome you feel really comfortable with cameras now :) Only with experience! Well way back I shot with a Canon Powershot A80, but you don't want that. Now I have a d80, I picked it up at Christmas and am *still* getting familiarised :P
Cold War Kids, I've got the album but haven't really listened to it. But now I will because you are so keen!!

Feel free to recommend whatever you like. I don't have the ability to check much new stuff out atm because I'm broke, but I'm still interested in case I'm missing out!

Just believe you can pull it off. One photographer doesn't hold the universal opinion on your crowd shots. What he didn't like, others might think are great.

I'm glad to hear you will try to keep up the lj updates :D

you are the sweetest!!
haha oh my course... geez... I haven't submitted ANYTHING.
I have done most of the work though, so I've learnt heaps. I still get confused by aperture but I have a vague idea of what it is so that's more than before hahaha. But yeah, as soon as I started understanding the theory, I understood my camera more, and applied that knowledge to the photos I was taking. And then I officially got the bug!!! And I can't believe I thought I could just give up. I'd definitely recommend doing a course, even if you know pretty much everything there is to know, it'll force you to go and seek certain things to take pictures of. Gets those creative juices flowing for sure.

YES please listen to Cold War Kids!!! Turn up Saint John and think of me - I'm obsessed with that song!!!

Maybe we should do a CD swap again? It's been a while ;)

Thankyou Amandaaa! xoxox

But the course is useful, at least, with instruction, ideas, tips for getting into the business, etc? That's what I need - something to give me reasons to be taking photos, and then something telling me how to get other people to care that I'm taking them lol.

I will for sure listen when I've got my computer at my desk! All of my music is on the external hard drive, and that does not travel when I've got my laptop away from the desk.

Hey a CD swap would be fun! I haven't done one of those in AAAAGGGGGEESSSS!

It hasn't taught me anything about the business yet, I think that's coming next... It's only really taught me technical stuff so far. To learn about getting into gigs and such... man, I spent sooo many hours reading blogs/websites, and going out of my way to meet other photographers and stuff, I've learnt everything though them. And uhh winning that competition was kind of the biggest kick start I could've asked for :P

I don't know if I would have any CD's that you'd like, come to think of it, at the moment I'm buying lots of old stuff that I've always meant to buy! HMMM I'll see what I can find :)
