Flashmobs!

  • Jul. 19th, 2009 at 11:58 AM
Hey everyone.
I was introduced to this phenomena last night, and I was wondering if anyone has been involved with or has witnessed one?
I'm really interested in doing so haha.

You can sign up here; http://www.melbourneflashmob.org/ but it seems to be down or something as it takes me to an error message when I try. :P I'll keep trying.

Nose Jobs.

  • Jul. 19th, 2009 at 11:01 AM
Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone had a nose job at all in the Maniac community? I'm considering getting the operation purely for cosmetic reasons and I have quite a few questions. I'd love to speak to a MM who might have the operation done?

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

- M.

Postin' like it's 1988

Anyone got one of these lying around?

Strange as it seems, I'd really, really prefer NTSC over a PAL version, and I'll even pay you for it. Hot damn!

TV for sale ...

  • Jul. 18th, 2009 at 9:01 AM
I've just upgraded my TV, so I have a 51cm colour TV for sale. DSE brand - 2 years old and in excellent condition. It cost me $199. I'm selling it for $30 + you pick it up from South Yarra.

Interested?

Two Questions

  • Jul. 18th, 2009 at 5:57 AM
1. Anyone know of a store that has a range of waffle irons? Myer only had two -- a Breville Waffle Creations (bit too small for my liking, pockets aren't very deep), and a Sunbeam Belgian Waffle maker (which looked good). Harvey Norman also had the Breville variety. David Jones had zip. I don't think I'm up for importing something from overseas, so I'll take what I can find.

2. Is it just me or has Borders' selection of books decreased? All the novels that I was after weren't on the shelves, and I thought they'd be popular enough to warrant being on offer.

Bonus rant: MasterChef is a bit of a farce. Well, it did show signs of being a farce quite early on, but Chris not being in the final two is dodgy (some might say that Chris being in the competition was dodgy, given his dominance though out the course of the show). It's comparable to having the seventh and eighted place footy team in the finals getting into the Grand Final, and having the top contender not make it. But hey, that's reality TV for you, no one ever said anything about being fair.

HELLO MELBOURNE!

It's Friday night! I'm at home, drinkin' myself into a stupor. I had some friends over earlier but they've all gone and now I'm bored. Entertain me! Post pictures of yourself, bad mouth another member of this community, whatever! Reassure my fragile self esteem!

Whilst you're at it, this question seems kind of odd because most of you ~live~ in Melbourne but can you recommend a good hostel in the CBD? Close proximity to Palace Theatre a plus!

Cakes and Desserts in the CBD

  • Jul. 17th, 2009 at 7:19 PM
So, a friend of mine is moving to London in a few weeks and I'm taking her out for lunch, coffee and dessert tomorrow. Originally, we were going to do High Tea at The Langham, but with Uni going back this week and textbooks to buy my funds won't stretch that far ($55 each!).

Lunch isn't an issue, but can anyone recommend somewhere with nice cakes and/or desserts in the city? My backup is Cafe Greco at Crown, but the last time I went the service was atrocious so I figured I'd ask for alternatives. :)

Dressmaking courses

  • Jul. 17th, 2009 at 7:17 PM
I've lately decided I want to take a basic dressmaking course, and although my Google-fu turns up many addresses, it gives me no reviews nor price indicators. So this evening I ask of you: any recommendations for short beginners courses in dressmaking/sewing, particularly in the CBD area, or the inner-eastern or SE part of Melbourne? Alternatively, any warnings against particular places/institutions?

Posting once again!

But this time I'm calling out all drum nerds. I have just decided that I'm going to get my arse into gear and start learning the drums after a few years of going "one day one day". I need to add it to my list of other instruments that I know :D ANYWAY, I'm looking at getting a set of electronic drums, but have NO clue about brands, prices, good places to go in Melbourne to get lessons.

Pretty much I know nothing, Hogan's Heroes style. I'm not looking at becoming some rockstar or anything, so nothing too advance. I was looking at wanting to spend about $1k mark, but if I could get something for amatures for super cheap I'm all up for it.

I can only go electronic because I'll be living in an area where acoustic, as much as I'd love it, wouldn't be looked upon nicely.

Thanks guys ^_^
I saw this guy at a place called Monster Burger not too far from my work, and his outfit tickled my funny bone. Thought I'd share with you all. I've not seen many costumed characters on the streets of Melbourne, has anyone else seen anything else like this, or even got some similar themed photos they could post up? I'd be mighty interested! :)

Monster Burger Dude!

P.S. The burgers at Monster Burger are above average - but not by much. This dude kicks ass though. :)

Cadbury Whip

  • Jul. 17th, 2009 at 3:02 PM
Melbourne, I put it to you that Cadbury Whip Bars are better than Mars Bars.

Discuss.

It is my birthday this weekend and I wish to go out and indulge in two of my favourite things: delicious desserts and cocktails. Where can I go for both? On a Sunday? And in the City/North?

I am thinking that it is more likely to find a restaurant that does both, so if anyone knows anywhere nice that wont mind a small group who only want a final course... That would be awesome.

Cheers MM!

Cheapest place in Melbourne to buy plain t shirts? I'm looking at about 30-50 (any places online are ok too). We're looking at getting them printed, so does anyone know a cheap place that will print them for us (either by supplying our own shirts and them printing them or buying the printing and shirts in one). We don't really care about quality, cheapness is the biggest issue. Has anyone tried printing a lot of shirts by using the iron on paper stuff you can get? How well did that work for you?
;
We'll need them before the 27th, so somewhere that will deliver quickly, or a place we can walk into would be good. :)

Thanks a bunch :)

I promised Sheeba...

HP6 spoiler alert )

Anyway, enjoy it guys. And if anyone in Perth wants to see it again next Sunday 26th (and maybe give me a lift to the airport as well), do let me know :D

TAX RETURN!!!

  • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 11:01 PM
Is there actually a date that PAYG payment summaries (group certificates) need to be sent out by? Google has told me that legally, employers need to send them out by July 14th, but Google doesn't tell me what happens if you don't receive them by then.

Has anyone else not received theirs from Centrelink?

Ice skating! :D

  • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 6:26 PM
What do people know about a temporary ice skating venue in Melbourne? A friend told me one had been set up recently, just for the winter months.

Apparently it's somewhere near RMIT, and it only costs $7.50 or something to get in for a couple of hours, but has anyone actually physically been there, and can give me directions? Pretty please. :D

Pocketwatch chain

  • Jul. 15th, 2009 at 11:05 PM
Anyone know a physical shop in Melbourne I can buy a pocketwatch chain? I'm googling and can only find ebay stores.
Bonus points for being in the CBD.
